Rhode Island Hydrangeas and a Mission Statement
It is not surprising to find a gorgeous blue hydrangea in Rhode Island and nor is it surprising to see a clear Mission Statement tied to a creative brand or business. Both the hydrangea and the Mission Statement are colorful, attractive, enticing, genuine, and, have the ability to transform. When I decided to compose and share my "Mission" on my site, I needed a bright and colorful image with strong memories as a "thinking" catalyst and started to "create".....
Creating a Mission Statement can be a daunting task and when you "Google" how-to create one, the information available is overwhelming. The you begin to wonder "do I need one?" Or perhaps you want to create a personal branding statement, or even a Vision Statement? I know, a lot of choices and where do you begin........In order to keep the process simple and focused, I found that by combining some fun LIghtroom edits to the blue hydrangea image, this helped fuel me creatively both visually and mentally. Whatever "statement" you are considering, please hear me out. This will be helpful!
Defining a Mission Statement (or any other intention clarification) may seem overkill for some, but trust me, no matter the level of your creative goals, a Mission Statement is a tangible and decisive way to affirming your intentions. It is not carved in stone nor is it one-sided. I will share my process of how I worked through creating my Mission Statement and perhaps you will be inspired to create your own!
I have BIG blog goals and BIG business plans. I LOVE to make lists and try new things. I WISH I had 30 hours in a day, and I am ALWAYS looking for a fresh perspective. I was hesitant to start a blog (pondered it for several years), I was scared to use the Manual setting on my camera, and I was nervous about putting my thoughts in a public forum. Yes, a true mental tornado it became!
One day I suddenly realized just how short life is and I truly knew I could make a difference (even if just for one person in the world) and it did not make sense to waste anymore time. I am in such awe of individuals who set up an Etsy shop or create a paint line or share their DIY knowledge to name a few. This is such a treat for so many of us to hear about your process and just a sampling of the many ways creative folks share their talents. There are those who bring their ideas and creativity to life so passionately it makes it seem so doable for the rest of us. That, my friends, is INSPIRATION! That is also a priceless gift each of us can share and whether or not we feel the impact in the world, the fact remains, we shared our own passion. Job well done!
A Mission Statement helps me corral these thoughts, goals, and plans in order to be productive and effective. I have previously shared my love of photography, design, coffee table books, styling images, learning my camera, and so on, but did you know that I am happiest surrounding myself with other creatives?
Now how do I focus and combine all of these areas into a cohesive effort.....??
I started the Mission Statement development process by following these 4 questions:
- What do I do?
- How do I do it?
- Whom do I do it for?
- What value am I bringing?
After many notes, scribbles, crumpled sheets of paper, I share my Mission Statement with you....
Let's hear about your Mission Statement! How did you develop it? How has it evolved as your blog or business grew?
Let's make 2016 the year that you too dive in and bring your dreams to life - challenge yourself to learn something new and share it with the world!
As always I would LOVE to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or comments and look forward to hearing from you soon!
