...old baking favorites...

With all of the baking taking place in my world lately, I have become reacquainted with my small collection of vintage baking equipment.  Most of these pieces have been discovered at thrift shops, antique booths, or garage sales.  There are a select few that have been handed down to me from family and as a collective whole, each piece is very special.

I have been drawn to old baking pans for many years.  What usually catches my attention is the color and patina that the pieces have acquired over the many years of use.  It is also likely that my mind wanders into thinking back on where the piece might have come from, who was the baker that used it, or what fabulous creations (or disasters?) came from these pans...

On a snowy cold afternoon, I started gathering some of these pieces and began snapping pictures....

Old baking pans look lovely all jumbled together in a gentle yet chaotic pile....

The softness of worn aluminum measuring spoons, all nested together, still shine with years of use.....

Although some pieces are bent or rusted, they each hold their memories of a special celebration or simply from new recipe that just had to be tried...

Heavy and worn stoneware mixing bowls are the perfect resting place for wooden spoons...as are small brown glass jars....

Collected baking treasures all wait patiently for the next recipe to be discovered....

The combination of warm wood and metal making the ideal baking tool...

The shapes, textures and sizes of baking pans, developed for a specific purpose, inspire and entice....

The simple shapes of baking tools that were created to perform magic with their ingredients...

Gorgeous, manual, and handheld perfection...

A caramel colored glass jar to hold a beautifully created spice mixture...

Metal formed specifically for the hands to create a perfectly cut homemade biscuit...

Even when rusted beyond their years, their utilitarian gorgeousness is unmistakeable...

Wooden spoons, in all shapes and sizes, are the perfect accessory for the baker's hands...

Wiping flour from your hands with a cotton towel, after the ingredients are mixed and placed in a warm oven....heavenly.....

The amazing scents that now start drifting from the kitchen begin to create memories along with the anticipation of what the first bite will taste like....

Just a few of the reasons why these are my old baking favorites...

Until next time,

JoanMarie
